Employer Nomination Scheme (subclass 186)

About this visa

This visa is a permanent residence visa for skilled workers.

  • Direct Entry stream

This visa allows you to:

  • stay in Australia indefinitely
  • work and study in Australia
  • enrol in Medicare
  • apply for Australian citizenship, if you are eligible
  • sponsor eligible relatives for permanent residence
  • travel to and from Australia for five years

Temporary Residence Transition (TRT) stream

This stream may be available if your employer wishes to sponsor you for permanent residence. You may be eligible under if you hold a Temporary Skill Shortage (TSS) visa (subclass 482), or a Temporary Work (Skilled) visa (subclass

457).

You also may be eligible if you worked for your employer full-time in Australia on your TSS and/or subclass 457 visa(s) for at least three out of the previous four years in the position you have been nominated for, or for two out of the previous three years if transitional arrangements apply because you either held, or were an applicant for, a subclass 457 visa (that was then granted) on 18 April 2017.

Direct Entry (DE) stream

If you do not meet the requirements under the TRT stream, this may be available if your employer still wishes to sponsor you for permanent residence.
